- The History.
The No Jury No Prize exhibition was first hosted by the Derry arts collective ‘Creative Village Arts’ for the city of culture year in 2013. Since then it has been hosted by Artlink FortDunree and continues to thrive as an annual event.
The perfect platform for young upcoming artists to show their art alongside more established artists. Like what you do, show what you can, believe in what you do and take a risk. There is No Jury there is No Prize.
- The Inspiration.
Celebrating the creativity of our visual artists across the region the exhibition is inspired by the artistic experimentation and egalitarian ethos that emerged out of the Salon des Refusés and the Société des Artistes Indépendants in 19th century Paris. In contrast to the selectivity of the official government-sponsored Salon of the Académie des Beaux-Arts (the then leading art exhibition in the world), the alternative Salons were truly democratic. They were integral to the birth of the avant-garde and modernism; famously displaying the work of Cézanne, Gauguin, Toulouse-Lautrec, Pissaro, Seurat and Signac among thousands of others. In 1884, the Society of Independent Artists was founded with the simple motto – “No jury nor awards”.
