Meet American singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer Jason Wilber – best known as long time lead guitar player with country / folk legend John Prine but also a man with an impressive sound all of his own.
“I was 26 when I started playing in John’s band, and I’m 47 now—it’s been my entire adult life,” Wilber says. “At this point, John and his family, and the guys in the band, they’re like family to me. I love them all, and I love working with them. When I look at what happens between John and an audience, I can’t deconstruct it for you and explain exactly why it’s so brilliant. But I can tell you that something amazing is happening”.
In Wilber’s multi-decade journey with Prine, the Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, guitarist and producer has graced stages from the Grand Ole Opry to Austin City Limits from Letterman to Colbert. He’s been a key player in high-profile collaborations with a host of legends including Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss, Josh Ritter & more.
Along the way Jason has also carved out an impressive solo career. His latest album Reaction Time – due out August 11th – is his 8th solo record and his finest work to date with gorgeously mournful melodies and cascading harmonies set against jangling guitars, the searching songs underpinned by a persistent longing.
There’s a reason that Jason Wilber has been in such demand with so many musical icons for so long. It’s the rare combination of immense talent and the unabashed honesty of his musicianship.
Don’t miss this opportunity to see one of the most important US country/folk musicians of the last 20 years in the intimate up close surroundings of The Balor.
