An entertaining, colourful romp set to the most sumptuous, romantic and sparkling music by Johann Strauss.

Die Fledermaus (The Bat) is presented by the North West Opera

The light-hearted plot follows 24 hours in the lives of a group of Viennese bourgeoisie centred around an elaborate plan for the revenge of The Bat. Disguises, hoaxes and abundant flirtation fuelled by copious amounts of champagne culminate in comical results.

Strauss elevates popular dances from the 19th century Viennese salons, waltzes, polkas and mazurkas to joyously rich orchestrated scores. He ultimately became known as The Waltz King due to his famous and immensely popular compositions ‘The Blue Danube’ and ‘The Emperor Waltz’ to name a couple.

Die Fledermaus is a supreme example of Strauss’s genius. The operetta opens with its hugely famous, grand overture and continues with a host of vibrant arias for duets, trios and choruses.

Die Fledermaus will be sung in English by professional leads and will be accompanied by full orchestra.

Fri 4 and Sat 5 November 2016 at 8pm.
