The Butt Drama circle present Brian Friel’s iconic award winning play.
Set in pre electrification Donegal during the Celtic harbest festival of Lughnasa, Brian Friels masterpiece tells the story of the five Mundy sisters and their brother Jack, who has returned home from the missions after 25 years.
A memory play, the story is narrated by the sisters nephew Michael who recalls the summer spent with his aunts when he was seven years old. As August gives way to September, Michael recounts his memory of childhood in Ballybeg where his aunts raised him in their crumbling rural home. And where they danced to the exciting fleeting melody of the past and danced against the harsh progressive drum beat of the present.
Winner of an Olivier Award and a Tony Award, Dancing at Lughnasa is one fo the greatest and best loved Irish plays of recent times. The Butt Drama Circle bring their production to the Balor stage before hitting the road for seven festival performances in the All Ireland Open Drama Competition.
