Derry, Strabane, Donegal and the Northwest has produced its fair share of hellraisers and trailblazers in the field of world music.

Our region has produced some very successful musicians in many different genres, and its strong innovative culture persists to this day. Whether you are interested in rock, folk, punk or dance /electronic fusion, we have produced plenty of talented groundbreakers and crowd-pleasers alike.

From Donegal, we’ve had many world famous acts, such as the legendary blues guitarist Rory Gallagher and the innovators in Folk / Rock, Clannad, not to mention every woman’s favourite, Daniel O’Donnell.

From Derry, we have the widely-respected singer-songwriter Phil Coulter, whose songs were recorded by The Bay City Rollers and Sandie Shaw, among others. His nostalgic anthem, ‘The Town I Loved So Well’ will be forever associated with the city. Then shaking things up a bit, The Undertones exploded out of the punk scene in 1976 with their debut single, Teenage Kicks. Today, we have local artists such as Soak, Balkan Alien Sound and Ryan Vail continuing to produce eclectic new music.

In the visual arts scene, both Willie Doherty and Locky Morris have gained international reputations, and there is a thriving art scene with new artists emerging all the time.
